Amy Marcy Cheney Beach (1867-1944), b. New Hampshire. Composer whose symphonies, Mass, and concerto were widely performed in the United States and abroad, particularly between 1893 and 1914. She is one of the first US women composers to have achieved wide respect and popularity. Her works include: Gaelic Symphony in E Minor, op. 32 (1896), Piano Concerto in C Sharp Minor (1899), and Scottish Legend, op. 54 (1903).
