Physical Modeling Applications for the Synthesis of a Central Javanese Rebab
abstract
This work employs physical modeling techniques to synthesize
the sound of a Central Javanese rebab, a bowed chordophone used in the performance
of gamelan music. The rebab model employs a bowed string physical model and
a two dimensional mesh model for the rebab body. The model components are adjusted
to the physical specifications of the rebab based on the physical and acoustic
characteristics of the instrument. The synthesized rebab is compared to an actual
rebab to measure the degree of success of the model.
