Gamelan Groups in the USA

This is a directory of currently active gamelan groupsand groups performing related arts in the United States. Its purpose is to provide a communication network so that gamelan performers and enthusiasts can get current information about eachother easily, and so those who are interested in playing or listening to gamelan music can locate groups near them.

The North American list (USA and Canada) was
first compiled in 1983 by Barbara Benary with assistance from Jody Diamond and Richard North; it was revised in 1997-8 and posted to the web by Marc Hoffman. The current list is hosted by the American Gamelan Institute, and maintained by Diamond and Benary.

If you are aware of any necessary
changes or additions to this list, please let us know at changes@gamelan.org

Each listing follows this format: Name of the group, kind of instruments and builder if known, repertoire played, and contact information. Groups are also welcome to add a description of the group, its philosphies, special projects, etc. If a group has a web site, you can link to their page by clicking on the group's name (first item in a listing).

A second listing of USA gamelan groups has been posted on Wikipedia by Sam Wantman. The Wikpedia list can be self-edited, but the new information does not automatically forward to this list.

The information that follows was last updated on March 5, 2006.
