Assignment 3
First Study in more difficult program
work in groups of 3
Assignment 1: Given: Tuesday, April 22
Due: May 13
Assignment #3 : First Study in Difficult Software
Working in groups, pick a computer music composition or
synthesis program from one of the following:
-
Csound
-
Supercollider
-
Jsyn/JMSL/Wire
-
AudioMulch
-
PD
-
STK
-
MatLab
These are all, with exception of AudioMulch, languages, not
really programs, and will require some real work and study.
Specifically, you are to do the following
-
break up into groups of 3 students each
-
learn the program in as much detail as you can, as a group,
taking notes on the various features, idiosyncracies, interests, problems
of the program
-
produce a short study in the program, as a group which:
-
is musically, conceptually interesting
-
gives you a basic understanding of how to use the program
-
gets you ready to do, individually, a more complicated and
robust final project
-
the study be a soundfile (aiff, regular format for the class),
but we want documentation (code, comments, etc). you can drop that soundfile
in the dropbox for the third assignment
-
in class, one group for each program will demonstrate the
program for us, coherently, in a planned fashion, as if you're trying to
teach it in, say, 30 minutes
!!!!The deadline for picking the program you are going
to work in, and having it approved by Larry is Tuesday, April 29
Miscellaneous Notes
Groups: Pick your own or I'll help
Where to find programs: Go to our
software links page.
Directions to hand in your sound files (1 piece per
group)
(from Bruno)
-
Make sure you've got the right file format (44100 kHz, 16
bit, stereo, AIFF)
-
Sound file name: use the full name of ONE of the members
of the group (Firstname + underscore + Lastname). It's all we need, since
we have the list of all groups. Example with my name:
-
Upload it to the cc11_Dropbox Assignment 3 (Mac users: remember,
use Fetch). Make sure you're uploading it to the Dropbox, and NOT to the
cc11 home directory.
