Amplitude Versus Decibels (DB)
Amplitude is a convenient way to describe the loudness of sound mathematically.
But audio engineers typically use "decibels" instead.
Decibels correspond more closely with the way that humans perceive loudness.
decibels = 20 * log(amplitude)
To Do:
- Move the Amplitude fader back and forth.
- Notice how it gets loud right away when moving from left to right.
- Move the Decibels fader back and forth.
- Notice how it is easier to adjust low volume levels using the DB fader.
