[edit] Audio setup
For the audio it is important to have a primary recording device and a back up device. Typically this is CD as primary and DAT as back up. Some people prefer to use the sound devices as the back up. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
- 1) Turn Power on - Furman power conditioner at top of rack
- 2) On the Mixer
- turn on phantom power (if needed) on the back next to the power switch
- leave faders at unity
- adjust input using mic gain knobs
- snake 1-4 goes into Mixer 1-4
- 3)Connect main outs to Cassette(CD Burner) w/ patch cables on the patchbay
- should always be left this way
- 4)Tape outs normaled to DAT in the patchbay
- 5) Check that input knob of CD recorder is set to line
Optional: if using the Sound Devices recorder
- Connect the patchbay tape out to the Sound Devices
- Adjust gains if needed (typically the 12:00 position is good)
- Be sure the input selection switch on the recorder is set to line
[edit] Recording
- Defeat autoID by pressing "autoID" on the DAT machine and "AUTO/MANUAL" on the CD burner
- DAT hit Rec + Pause to arm (monitor levels)
- CD hit Rec to arm (monitor levels)
- It's possible to monitor levels without inserting media. Just hit record. This is useful because the CD burner will eventually exit Record-Pause mode if there's a CD in the tray.
- DAT hit Rec + Play to record
- CD hit "Pause" to start recording
- pressing "Write Manual" begins a new track on the CD
- pausing and un-pausing the CD also begins a new track
- "time/margin" is useful for time display modes and clearing the max value
- Sound Devices
- Press record to start recording
- Press record again to create a new track
[edit] Finalize it:
- Press Stop on both CD and DAT (or Sound Devices)
- For CD, Must press "Finalize" to build TOC on disc
- it will think a bit, then you press "pause" to confirm
