The Hanover Community & Transportation

Dartmouth is located in Hanover, New Hampshire, a small New England town dating back to a few years before the College's founding in 1769. Situated in the upper valley of the Connecticut River, between the White Mountain range of New Hampshire and the Green Mountains of Vermont, Hanover combines the advantages of a rural setting with the resources of a university.

Hanover is located on the western border of New Hampshire; it is about two hours travel by car from Boston and about five from New York City, all via interstate highways.
You can fly from Boston and New York to Lebanon Regional Airport, about five miles away. Manchester airport is about 1.5 hours away.
The Dartmouth Mini-Coach provides transportation between Boston Logan Airport and Wheelock St. in Hanover 5 times each day. Vermont Transit provides bus service from the Manchester New Hampshire Airport, Boston (Logan Airport), New York, Montreal, a nd other points directly to Hanover.
Amtrak (The Vermonter: Washington, New York, and Burlington) stops at White River Junction, Vermont, about five miles away. It arrives in WRJ early evening, leaves WRJ in the morning.

Housing

There is a variety of housing available for single graduate students within walking distance to anywhere in Hanover. First-year students are given priority for these rentals and assignment s are made by the Graduate Office.

Health Service

The Dartmouth College Health Service provides comprehensive ambulatory and infirmary services. Th e Health Service is located in Dick Hall's House, better known as Dick's House, on Rope Ferry Road, an extension of North Main Street.

Each full time student paying full tuition is entitled to the Health Care Service through Dick's House from the day before registration for a term until the registration day for the following term. Those students who register for the fall term become entitled to Health Care Service on September 1st. Eligibility ceases when enrollment in Dar tmouth College is terminated by withdrawal, suspension, or separation.
